Water You Waiting For: 5 Easy Ways to Cut Your H2O Use at Home

Saving a little bit of money here and there can sure add up to a lot of extra cash over time. But how is it possible to cut corners without making changes that are too drastic for your lifestyle (or your standard of living)?

Here are 5 easy ways our Xtreme Green Grass Xperts recommend for cutting down on your water use at home:

1. Re-purpose the water you use when you are cooking.
This method of conservation is especially easy when you're preparing a meal that requires you to boil more than one of your dishes (like noodles and veggies). Reuse the same pot of water to boil each at separate times, instead of cooking with several pots simultaneously.

2. Use a bucket to hold your warm-up water when you're brushing your teeth or preparing to shower.
Did you know up to 4 gallons of water is wasted just by leaving the faucet running while you're brushing your teeth? This accumulated water (which would typically be discarded simply because it wasn't warm enough or needed while you were brushing) can be used at a later time to quench your plants' thirst, replace the evaporated water in your fish tank or to spruce up your parched herb garden.

3. Keep a big basin in your kitchen sink, right under the faucet.
This will help 'catch' unused H2O while you're waiting for it to heat up. Reuse this water to rinse off your produce from the market, to wipe down your kitchen counter tops or to wash your hands before sitting down at the dinner table. You'll be amazed to find how much water you collect/save by doing this!

4. Wait until your water-intensive appliances are full before running them.
Don't quite have a full load of laundry to wash? Wait until your washer is full to run your machine. Only have a few dishes that need cleaning? Try washing them by hand instead of running them through an entire cycle in your dishwasher. Waiting until your appliances are filled with a 'full load' can help you save gallons of water and in turn, several dollars on your water bill.

5. Get your lawn painted so you'll have to water it less frequently.
Lawn painting is a great way to cut down on your water usage. That's because treatments like those offered by Xtreme Green Grass use a non-toxic dye that's vibrant, affordable and long lasting (you can go up to 12 weeks in between lawn painting treatments). Grass that stays green without the need to be watered every day can definitely save you a hefty amount of change on your utility bill, especially during the summer months!

An Ideal Situation: 4 Reasons Why Xtreme Green Grass Lawn Painting is Ideal for YOU

Aside from blustery weather conditions, one other pitfall of this seemingly never ending winter season can simply be how dull and lifeless the scenery around you can look... such as the landscape surrounding your home (like your front and/or back yard).

The upside to this, however, is that something quick and affordable can be done to make your view more vibrant... such as lawn painting!

Here are 4 reasons why our Xtreme Green Grass Xperts believe lawn painting may be the ideal solution for YOUR humble abode:

1. You want a beautiful lawn and/or yard all year round.
Unless you have artificial turf surrounding your domicile or you reside where it's warm 365 days a year, having a lush n' lovely lawn isn't exactly easy when the temperatures plummet... unless you have your yard painted, that is! Lawn painting can not only revive the appearance of your home's exterior, it's long lasting too (you can go up to 12 weeks in between treatments).

2. You're tired of watering, weeding & fertilizing your grass during the warmer months.
Tending to your grass each spring, summer and fall can become a little tiring not to mention expensive, especially when you're dishing out top dollar for high-end lawn chemicals or gardening concoctions that claim to make your lawn sprout and thrive with a vengeance. Lawn painting, however, can be much cheaper and requires much less maintenance to keep its bold green hues. Our Xtreme Green Grass Xperts just give your yard a lil' spritz and you're newly madeover yard is good to go for nearly 3 months!

3. Your summer water bills are too high.
We all have bills to pay as adults...the power bill, our cell phone bill, the cable bill, etc. One of the expenses that can definitely be reduced, though (simply with lawn painting), is your water bill. A plush, sprayed lawn is great on the eyes and great on your wallet since it will require less watering, fewer fertilizing applications and most of all, less yard maintenance overall.

4. You don't want to treat your grass with fertilizers and/or harsh chemicals.
Having a family comprised of young children as well as four-legged friends can make you more cautious of how you choose to treat your grass... specifically when it's warmer out and everyone is constantly outside. Lawn painting formulas like ours at Xtreme Green Grass can be much safer for you and your loved ones, because they don't have the harmful chemicals and dangerous toxins many fertilizers or grass growing solutions contain.

Dead or Alive: How to Tell if Your Grass is Dead... or Just Dormant

Bitter cold temperatures and scorching hot temperatures can be difficult conditions for us to endure as humans... but imagine what a number it can do on our lawns too.

Sometimes it can kill off our lush greenery entirely (e.g. DEAD grass), but other times it can just put our yards into a bit of a holding pattern until the weather becomes more favorable (e.g. DORMANT grass).

How is it possible to tell which is which? Our Xtreme Green Grass Xperts explain the difference between DEAD grass and DORMANT grass below:

Dead Grass vs. Dormant Grass
Dead grass can be a bit difficult to detect, especially when the current climate is really hot or unbearably cold. If you are trying to identify whether your grass is dead or just dormant during the winter, you may have to wait until closer to springtime to test it.

One of the best ways to tell if your grass is dead during the summer, however, is to keep watering it. Ample irrigation will allow your yard to turn green in the areas where it is still thriving. If your lawn returns to green, it means your grass was just dormant. The brown patches which do not transform after being watered are what can be considered dead grass. If your whole lawn remains brown after being watered several times... then unfortunately, your entire yard is dead.

Dormant grass in most cases can closely resemble that of dead grass, only it's still very much alive, and shouldn't cause concern. Dormancy is a built-in, natural mechanism our yards possess to protect itself from mother nature's temper tantrums (such as subfreezing temperatures or drought-like climate). When the weather eases up, our grass gladly returns to its vibrant color with that supple texture we love frolicking through during the spring and summer months.

Xtreme Green Solutions
Whether the ground covering in your yard is temporarily dormant or dead as a door nail, there's no need for the exteriors of your home to appear dried up and drab... our Xtreme Green Grass Xperts can improve the look of your lawn with our new lawn painting services.

Lawn painting has proven to be a much more effective and affordable alternative to sodding, fertilizing and even planting grass seeds. The best part? Our Xtreme Green Grass formulas are odor-free, waterproof and non-toxic. In other words, it's long lasting and safe for children as well as pets.

Think Outside the Box (of Chocolates): 4 Unique Ways to Show Some Love This Valentine's Day

We all know a beautiful bouquet doesn't last forever, and neither do sweet candies... so why give that special someone a Valentine's Day present that's just well-- mediocre at symbolizing just how much you care?!

Here are 4 unique Valentine's Day gift ideas from our Xtreme Green Grass Xperts to help you show some love in the most unconventional yet memorable way possible this year:

4 Unique Ways to Show Some Love This Valentine's Day

1. Hit the streets with your Sweets for some cruisin' (and a deluxe car wash too).
This is a great gift that many of us never think about, but need at least once a month-- a car wash for both the inside and outside of your romantic partner's ride. Whether you take his/her car and wash it yourself, or simply purchase a gift card to the local car wash down the street... this affordable present is ideal for someone who has a shiny new vehicle and/or is someone who is hard to shop for when it comes to special occasions.

2. Play a practical joke on your Pookie (with something we seriously all can use).

Okay sometimes it's easy to go a lil' overboard when it comes to shopping for the love of your life... especially when you see aisles full of Valentine paraphernalia and endless jewelry commercials on the tube during this time of year. But why not a gift card for groceries or gas instead of baubles and bangles?! As humans we always need food & basic staples for our homes, and we also need gas to get to just about any destination. Who says practical isn't passionate? We at Xtreme Green Grass think it's ingenious.

3. Give your Honey a sweet monthly reminder of your love (with a wine or fruit-of-the-month subscription).

Monthly subscriptions aren't just for peeping a preview of next season's must-have high heels or for catching up on celebrity gossip in the tabloids anymore... you can actually give and send some great gifts like libations or fresh fruit on a regular basis. Check out sites like Club W and Harry & David to look for the perfect present for your Pumpkin Pie if ya don't believe us!

4. Paint the town (or just your sweetheart's lawn) green.

Here's a super suggestion that you may have never thought about... You know how they say your humble abode is your "home sweet home?" Well why not make your Darling's domicile a tad bit sweeter by ordering a lush green lawn painting treatment from Xtreme Green Grass Alabama? Not only does it last way longer than a bouquet of roses, it's affordable and it's safe for pets as well as children since it's non-toxic.
